» DS version of Aliens Colonial Marines developed by WayForward Technologies

Whilst Gearbox are at the reigns for the 'proper' version of Aliens Colonial Marines for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3, the little brother version of ACM will be worked on by someone else entirely.

WayForward, an independent game developer located in Valencia, CA, is probably best known for the 2D side-scrolling shooter, Contra 4. Aliens Colonial Marines DS is being considered by many to be the spiritual successor to Contra 4.

 

Contra 4 won IGN's 'Best of E3' Best Action Game Award in 2007.

"Refining the 2D side-scrolling genre the series established 20 years ago, Contra 4 delivers pure action at a fever pitch as players jump, shoot, and dodge oncoming hazards. Utilizing a new dual screen presentation, the action spans both screens of the Nintendo DS, giving players the opportunity to battle across expansive environments in which death can come from any direction. The use of both screens for the game’s core action also allows for massive boss battles as players try to seek and destroy the weak points of sky-high enemies. A first for the series, Contra 4 introduces a grappling hook accessory that lets players grab onto elements of the environment directly above them. Whether using it to avoid oncoming dangers or attack from a strategic vantage point, the grappling hook allows for new combat situations and dramatic set pieces that underscore the game’s adrenaline-soaked pedigree."

So it seems Aliens Colonial Marines DS has a well established development house behind it. Let's hope it is as well recieved by the handheld market as we know Aliens Colonial MArines will be by the console/pc market.

It will be interesting to see how this turns out. I agree with Boog to a degree *shudder* that the DS is aimed at mostly kids. You only have to see Nintendogs and shit like that to see it's for pre teen girls.

Maybe this title will help Nintendo shift a few more units to older people.

Btw, the DS version of ACM is the one with the space jockey, right?, man, gotta see that xD. I think the queen is going to look like a tiny toon compared to a jockey alien

The DS version is going is going to be more like ''move this pixel there, kill that pixel, hug this pixel,'' etc. Hopefully the story itself will be less pixelated, though.

Chinatown Wars flops in the US

 

The first 18+ game on the Nintendo DS has not performed well at retail in the US.

Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars was touted by critics to be one of the best games on the Nintendo DS, but being the first 18+ game on the handheld it was unknown how it would attract its audience.

The title performed relatively well in the UK, debuting at sixth place and managing to hold its spot in the top twenty for a number of weeks.

The lowest analyst estimate for the US sales of Chinatown Wars in the month of March was only 200,000. However, according to numbers from the NPD group the title didn't even manage to achieve that, pushing only 88,704 copies, as reported by Business Insider.

Just like the adult audience doesn't appear to be attracted to the Nintendo Wii with the sales of MadWorld, which reportedly only sold 70,000 in the US this March, Grand Theft Auto doesn't look like it's right for the DS either.
